Statement on Safeguarding Children and Adults
At Greater Lancashire Hospital, safeguarding children, young people, adults, and the wellbeing of looked-after children is a top priority. We are fully committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of all individuals in our care. To this end, we have established robust safeguarding arrangements that are in line with our role as a provider of commissioned services. Our safeguarding measures include:
- Clear, robust, and accessible safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Safe recruitment, selection, and contractual procedures, including comprehensive criminal record checks.
- A designated safeguarding lead to oversee all safeguarding matters.
- Transparent whistleblowing procedures and a “Freedom to Speak Up” culture that fosters safety, equality, diversity, and protection at all times.
- Mandatory safeguarding training with appropriate staff support and supervision.
- A systematic approach to reporting safeguarding incidents.
According to Working Together to Safeguard Children, safeguarding is a shared responsibility. This guideline, titled Working Together to Safeguard Children: A Guide to Inter-Agency Working to Safeguard and Promote the Welfare of Children (March 2018), emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding children.
The Care Act 2014 establishes the statutory framework for safeguarding adults, setting out key principles and best practices for practitioners responsible for protecting adults at risk of mistreatment.
Additionally, Regulation 13 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 (part 3, as amended) outlines requirements for safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment.
