About me

Dr Tawfiq Choudhury is a general and interventional cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC), Blackpool Victoria Hospital. The LCC is the regional heart attack centre for Lancashire and south Cumbria.

He qualified from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London, with distinction, in 2005 and completed an intercalated BSc in Molecular Medicine at University College London obtaining a 1st.

He completed his cardiology training in the North West training programme, rotating through the major teaching hospitals and various other hospitals in Greater Manchester and Lancashire. Tawfiq undertook a 2-year period of research work at the London Chest Hospital, Barts Health NHS, London on the role of stem and progenitor cells in heart failure that led to the award of an MD (Res) degree. After completing his cardiology training in the UK, Tawfiq went for an 18-month interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. 

He has been a Consultant Cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre, Blackpool since 2019. He performs a full range of coronary interventions (dealing with narrowing and blockages in the blood vessels that supply the heart).

He is also does TAVI procedures (implanting a new heart valve for severely narrowed aortic valve usually via the artery in the groin). 

Tawfiq is also extremely interested in general cardiac health and wellbeing and coronary disease prevention. He does a monthly cholesterol clinic and is a member of the lipid multidisciplinary team. He has an active interest in research and is a Principal Investigator and sub-Investigator on a number of multi-centre clinical trials.

He has presented his work at major national and international conferences and has several publications in the field of cardiology in peer-reviewed journals. He was the lead for cardiac research at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre.
