Greater Lancashire Hospital Secures Outstanding Rating from CQC

One of the NHS’s leading Consultant Neurosurgeons praises the facility

Preston-based Greater Lancashire Hospital (GLH) has secured an outstanding rating in its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) report, with the overall evaluation for the facility being classed as good.

The highest ‘outstanding’ rating was secured to the question ‘are services caring’, with the report citing ‘patient feedback was continually positive’.

From its on-site investigations, the main independent regulator of all health and social care services in England also stated ‘we saw that staff were responsive, kind and respectful…while patients received compassionate care and were treated with dignity and respect.’

The overall service for the report was ‘surgery’ which was rated as good, while the CQC also rated the hospital as good for the questions ‘are services safe, effective, responsive and well-led’.

GLH, which has been trading just under three years, positions itself as the North West’s foremost specialist diagnostic and treatment centre, providing the region’s NHS hospitals with a wide range of diagnostic, general daycare, investigative, medical and surgical procedures.

Professor Charles Davis, one of the NHS’s leading Consultant Neurosurgeons, regularly holds clinics and medical appointments at GLH and praised the facility:

“The Care Quality Commission report confirms Greater Lancashire Hospital not only as efficient and safe but also friendly. Quality of care is not always measurable but when the staff in the hospital have high morale inevitably the patients receive better treatment.”

The report confirmed that the between April 2015 and March 2016 there were over 1,300-day case episodes of care, of which 99% of these were delivered through partnerships with local NHS trusts in the local area. There were also no ‘never’ or ‘serious incidents’ during this time.

The CQC report is required by all hospitals to deliver patient-led care and surgery, across the five core questions the ratings include outstanding, good, requires improvement and inadequate.
